Swaddling your baby can be very comforting for your baby, babies have a Moro reflex which causes the baby to flail when they hear a loud noise or have a sensation of falling. Your baby can become hysterical in .6 seconds even out of a very calm state.
When laying your baby down try to keep the baby as close to you as possible and try to keep the sudden, loud noises down. Swaddling the baby gives them a since of security and comfort and help calm your baby when this reflex goes into action.
When your baby is about 3 or 4 months old the Moro reflex will start the go away and at that time you can start getting away from swaddling.
